The unit has confused may customer who have tried to simply swap out their old modem with the Westell 6100F and use it with an existing router. To use it with your existing router you must first disable the 6100's routing features and enable bridge mode.
Westell 6100F Interface
To change the settings you need to connect you computer directly to the Westell 6100F with an Ethernet cable that comes with the device. Access the configuration utility with you browser using http://192.168.1.1/ and the configuration screen will appear. Since your network will not recognize this device you may need to temporarily turn off your computer firewall and turn off pop-up blockers in your browser. When the login screen appears use the default Verizon settings of username = admin and password = password.
The configuration screens may differ depending on which version of the firmware you have but the features we will disable are fairly straight forward. With the 6100F you won't see any wireless settings. When the screen appears select the My Network tab, then Network Connections on the left. Now, on the main screen select Broadband Connection (DSL) and a screen similar to the following Advanced DSL screen will appear:

Bridge Broadcast and Bridge Multicast need to be enabled. Then on the VCs line click the Edit icon at the right. You will see a screen similar to the following:

On the Protocol line select Bridge from the drop list. That will cause another screen to appear:

Here you want to change both the Protocol and the Bridge Mode lines to Bridge.
Now you have to go back to the My Network tab and click Network Connection on the left. On the line Broadband Connection, click Lan. At the top make remove the check from the line Private Server DHCP Server Enable. When this is applied, assuming all steps have been successfully completed, the Internet light on the device should be out.
Now you can disconnect your computer from the unit and attach your router as it was with your previous modem. Give the router time to sync with your modem. Then restart your system so it will now get the IP address from the router.
